FAQ
What temperatures do Crested geckos require?
Crested geckos don't require too much heat. Our summer months in the UK are very similar to the background temperature that they require, being between 22C - 26C (72-79F). The hot spot of the enclosure should be between 26-28C (79-82F). Then lastly the night time temperature should be between 20C - 26C (68-79F). This can be achieved with either a heat mat or a halogen heat bulb, the heat mat is the better way to go for this species as the heat mat is easier to regulate. This can be done with a mat stat, thermostat and hygrometer.
How often do I need to feed my gecko?
The 3 different species of geckos that we sell being Crested, Gargoyle and Leopard geckos all have the same feeding schedules.
Babies and sub adults should be fed everyday with size appropriate insects or fruit mixes. Leopard Geckos are insectivorous animals so they do not require fruit mix suplements.
Adults should be offered food every other day or 2-3 times per week.
Which is better heat mats or heat bulbs?
These two different method for heating both come with their benefits and drawbacks. It would depend on the set up you have and your own personal preference.
What maintenance comes with owning a gecko?
When thinking about buying a reptile you must first think about the commitment that you are undertaking as you would with any other pet. Only go through with getting one if you are sure that you will be able to care for said animal correctly and meet its needs. Owning a geckos has a few different commitments. You will need to be able to provide the correct temperatures and humidity with the correct equipment. Also you will need to be able to provide a varied diet of fruit and insects. Finally you must be able to dedicate some time to handling them and ensuring that they are getting the best enrichment they can with their enclosure, this includes regular cleaning within enclosures ensuring to only use reptile safe products and disinfectants.
Is there anything extra I can do to improve my geckos wellbeing?
Your geckos wellbeing can be improved in a few different ways. These can be things such as providing fake and or real plants, hides and extra decoration for them to climb around on. Also you can add more variety to your geckos diet. You could even provide a small water dish for them to bath in to aid in the shedding process.
What do I need when first setting up my enclosure?
The set up and equipment you will need will depend on the reptile that you are looking at getting. Here you can find out any information that you may be after.
